Here is my recent essay for the Winter 2025 issue of the English and American Language Association’s newsletter. In it I discuss the future of the humanities, particularly in addressing the complex and daunting ecological challenges of our time. Also included is a lovely look back by Robin Visser (NHC Fellow, 2017–18) at the National Humanities Center’s 2019 Beyond Despair conference, considering the humanities’ role in addressing environmental issues.
