Creating New Knowledge at the NHC

One of the great pleasures of my job is having the chance to glimpse the exciting ways that humanities knowledge is developing here in the US and around the world through the hundreds of fellowship applications we receive each year at the National Humanities Center.

I am always struck by the staggering range of fascinating topics being explored, and deeply impressed by the quality of scholarship taking place at institutions of all kinds.

From the 540+ applications submitted this year, the Center’s rigorous selection process has produced a truly wonderful class of Fellows who will arrive at the Center in September to advance their research projects and form a robust intellectual community. These scholars will come to the Center from universities and colleges in 17 US states, Canada, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. I look forward to seeing you all in the near future.
